Reflecting on Mental Health Awareness Week 2024
As Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on the activities we’ve participated in and the progress we’ve made in raising awareness about mental well-being within the construction community. This year’s theme, “Movement: Moving More for Our Mental Health,” resonated deeply with us at Cubby Construction. It underscored the importance of integrating movement into our daily routines to build mental resilience. Let’s look back at how we have embraced this theme and the positive impact it has had.
Laying the Foundation for Movement
Incorporating movement into our lives is like laying the foundation for a sturdy structure. Here are some strategies you may implement to move more and take care of your mental health:
- Starting Small: Many of us began with simple activities like stretching exercises before our shifts and taking short walks during our lunch breaks.
- Team Activities: We organised group exercises and sports during break times, promoting physical health and strengthening team bonds.
- Utilising Our Environment: We made the most of the physical demands of our job by taking the stairs instead of the lift and walking to coworkers’ stations instead of sending emails.
- Mindful Movement: We practiced mindfulness while moving, focusing on our breath during tasks and enjoying the rhythm of our steps.
For those looking to continue these practices, the Mental Health Foundation’s Movement Guide offers more ideas and detailed strategies.
Celebrating Our Efforts
At Cubby Construction, we dedicated ourselves to supporting Mental Health Awareness Week with various activities aimed at promoting movement and mental well-being. Starting with Daily Social Media Posts, we shared tips, stats, and motivational content on our social media channels. We also arrange two team activities:
1. Wear It Green Day – Thursday, 16 May 2024
Wear It Green Day was a fantastic success! Our team came together, donning green attire and contributing to a vibrant atmosphere. The bake sale was a hit, and we are proud to announce that we raised £145 for the Mental Health Foundation. The enthusiasm and generosity displayed by everyone was truly heart warming.
2. Walk & Talk – Sunday, 19 May 2024
Our Walk & Talk event at Talkin Tarn was a highlight of the week. The beautiful weather set the perfect backdrop for a rejuvenating walk and meaningful conversations. It was wonderful to see our colleagues, along with their families and furry friends 🐾, enjoying the event. This activity not only promoted physical movement but also fostered a sense of community and support among us.
Moving Forward
As we conclude Mental Health Awareness Week, let’s carry forward the momentum we’ve built. By integrating movement into our daily routines, we can continue to improve our mental resilience and overall well-being. The activities and connections we’ve made this week have laid a strong foundation for a healthier and more supportive work environment.
Thank you to everyone at Cubby Construction for your participation and commitment. Let’s keep moving, for our mental health and for each other.
